Lesson activities:

1) As a warm-up activity, students will label a diagram of a bee with anatomical words (antennae, abdomen, stinger, thorax, etc.)

2) Students will watch a video from PBS about how bees make honey, and how they communicate using the 'waggle dance'

3) Next, the worksheet goes over six bee-related phrases/idioms, defining them and giving students a chance to see and use them in context: a police sting, the birds and the bees, a honey trap, to make a bee line, the bee's knees and bee-stung lips.

4) Finally, students will read an article from New Scientist about how scientists are programming robots to speak to bees in their own 'waggle dance' language. Advanced vocabulary is underlined and defined: to correlate, foam, rod, to mimic, to forage, to pan out well, to tap dance, etc.
